রিকেটস, অস্টিওম্যালাসিয়া প্রতিরোধ ও হাড়ের স্বাস্থ্য রক্ষায় এই ঔষধ ব্যবহৃত হয়। কিডনি ও যকৃতে বিপাক হয়ে ক্যালসিট্রাইওলে রূপান্তরিত হয়ে এটি ক্যালসিয়াম শোষণ বাড়ায়। ৫০ দিনের হাফ-লাইফ দীর্ঘমেয়াদী প্রভাব নিশ্চিত করে।

ডোজ নির্দেশনা:

প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক: ঘাটতি পূরণে সপ্তাহে ৪০,০০০ আইইউ, অস্টিওপোরোসিসে মাসে ২০,০০০ আইইউ।
কিশোর: ঘাটতি চিকিৎসায় দুই সপ্তাহে ২০,০০০ আইইউ।

ম্যাগনেসিয়াম এন্টাসিড, কোলেস্টাইরামিন ও কর্টিকোস্টেরয়েডের সাথে মিথস্ক্রিয়া এড়িয়ে চলুন। আলো ও আর্দ্রতা থেকে ৩০°C-এ সংরক্ষণ করুন। গর্ভাবস্থায় চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ নিন।

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 40,000 IU weekly for 7 weeks (deficiency), 20,000 IU monthly (osteoporosis). Adolescents: 20,000 IU every 2 weeks. Swallow capsule whole with water. Renal impairment requires serum calcium monitoring. Duration varies by clinical response.

Side Effects

Symptoms rarely include anorexia, lassitude, nausea & vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, polyuria, sweating, headache, thirst, vertigo, and raised concentrations of calcium and phosphate in plasma and urine.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category A. Safe up to 4,000 IU/day. Breastfeeding: Monitor infant’s vitamin D levels. Adjust dose based on maternal deficiency status.

Precautions & Warnings

Monitor renal function and calcium levels in long-term use. Dose adjustment needed in hepatic impairment. Avoid concurrent use with other vitamin D3 supplements.

Use in Special Populations

Safety under age 12 not established. Geriatric patients require renal assessment. Hepatic/renal impairment alters pharmacokinetics.

Overdose Effects

It can lead to hypervitaminosis D.
