Dosage & Administration

Extended Release Tablet: 200mg once daily. Film Coated Tablet: 100mg twice daily. Dose reduction needed in renal/hepatic impairment. Take after food to reduce GI irritation. Treatment duration typically 2-3 weeks as per physician guidance.

Side Effects

Acefenac is a non-steroidal drug with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which is involved in the production of prostaglandin. After oral administration, it is rapidly and completely absorbed an unchanged drug.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy (Category C): Use only if potential benefit justifies risk. Contraindicated during lactation – excreted in breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings

Use proton pump inhibitors in patients with GI history. Monitor liver function and blood pressure during long-term therapy. Use lowest effective dose in elderly patients.

Use in Special Populations

Not approved for pediatric use. Elderly require renal function monitoring. Hepatic impairment needs 50% dose reduction. Contraindicated in severe renal failure (GFR <30).
