Aciphin IV Injection 2 gm/vial

Aciphin (Ceftriaxone Sodium) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic manufactured by ACI Limited. This 2 gm/vial IV injection effectively treats bacterial infections including pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. Its broad-spectrum action inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, offering stability against beta-lactamase enzymes.

Priced at ৳320 per vial, Aciphin requires proper storage below 30°C. The extended 6-9 hour half-life allows once-daily dosing. Adults typically receive 1-2 gm daily via IV/IM routes, while pediatric doses range from 50-75 mg/kg. Surgical prophylaxis involves 1 gm IV 30-120 minutes pre-operation.

Common side effects include gastrointestinal distress (diarrhea, nausea) and skin reactions (rash, pruritus). Rare hematologic effects like leukopenia may occur. Contraindicated in penicillin allergies, it requires cautious use during pregnancy and lactation due to limited safety data.

Aciphin is generally well tolerated. A few side effects such as gastro-intestinal effects including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, stomatitis and glossitis; cutaneous reactions including rash, pruritus, urticaria, edema and erythema multiforme; hematologic reactions including eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, anemia and neutropenia; hepatic reactions including elevations of SGOT or SGPT, bilirubinemia; CNS reactions including nervousness, confusion, sleep disturbances, headache, hyperactivity, convulsion, hypertonia and dizziness were reported. Local phlebitis occurs rarely following intravenous administration but can be minimized by slow injections over 2-4 minutes.

Pregnancy safety unestablished. Caution in lactation. Medical supervision mandatory.

Keep epinephrine ready for anaphylaxis. Monitor blood counts during prolonged therapy. Administer IV injections slowly over 2-4 minutes.

Contraindicated in neonates (<28 days). Dose adjustments may needed in elderly/hepatic/renal patients.

There is no specific antidote. Treatment of overdosage should be symptomatic.
