Aciphin IM Injection 500 mg/vial

Aciphin Injection is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing Ceftriaxone Sodium (500 mg/vial), manufactured by ACI Limited. Priced at ৳145.00 per vial, this IM injection treats bacterial infections like pneumonia, meningitis, and urinary tract infections. Its broad-spectrum action inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, making it effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Aciphin Injection requires storage below 30°C in dry conditions. The dosage varies: adults receive 1-2g daily, while children get 50-75mg/kg. For gonorrhea, a single 250mg IM dose suffices. Surgical prophylaxis involves 1g IV 30-120 minutes pre-operation. Treatment typically lasts 4-14 days, extending for complex infections.

Common side effects include diarrhea, skin rashes, and elevated liver enzymes. Rarely, thrombocytopenia or neutropenia may occur. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use it cautiously. No severe drug interactions are reported. Alternatives include other Ceftriaxone brands like Aciphin 1gm/vial or 2gm/vial.

This antibiotic’s 6-9 hour half-life allows once-daily dosing. Over 95% binds to plasma proteins, with 40-65% excreted unchanged in urine. For optimal results, administer IV injections slowly over 2-4 minutes to reduce phlebitis risk. Always complete the prescribed course to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Aciphin is generally well tolerated. A few side effects such as gastro-intestinal effects including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, stomatitis and glossitis; cutaneous reactions including rash, pruritus, urticaria, edema and erythema multiforme; hematologic reactions including eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, anemia and neutropenia; hepatic reactions including elevations of SGOT or SGPT, bilirubinemia; CNS reactions including nervousness, confusion, sleep disturbances, headache, hyperactivity, convulsion, hypertonia and dizziness were reported. Local phlebitis occurs rarely following intravenous administration but can be minimized by slow injections over 2-4 minutes.

Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Caution in lactation – may cause infant gut flora changes.

Monitor for anaphylaxis during initial dosing. Perform regular CBC and LFT with prolonged therapy. Maintain adequate hydration to reduce biliary complications.

Pediatric dosing requires weight-based calculation. Geriatric patients need renal function assessment. No dosage adjustment needed in hepatic/renal impairment.

There is no specific antidote. Treatment of overdosage should be symptomatic.
