Actidex Tablet 25 mg

Actidex Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing Dexketoprofen 25 mg as its active ingredient. Manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd, it effectively treats mild-to-moderate pain, musculoskeletal disorders, menstrual cramps, and dental discomfort. This tablet formulation ensures rapid absorption due to its trometamol salt composition.

Priced at ৳4.00 per unit, Actidex offers cost-effective relief. Each strip contains 10 tablets (৳40.00), with bulk packs of 5×10 tablets available for ৳200.00. Its quick onset of action—30 minutes post-dosing—makes it suitable for acute pain management. However, daily intake should not exceed 3 tablets, especially for elderly or hepatorenal-impaired patients.

The pharmacology of Dexketoprofen highlights its role as the active S(+)-enantiomer of Ketoprofen, offering double the anti-inflammatory potency. Peak plasma concentration occurs within 15–45 minutes, ensuring faster relief than traditional NSAIDs. Over 70% of the dose is excreted via urine as glucuronide conjugates, minimizing metabolic burden.

Key precautions include:

• Avoid concurrent use with anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors, or diuretics
• Contraindicated in third-trimester pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Storage below 30°C in moisture-free environments

Common side effects (1–10% incidence) involve gastrointestinal discomfort. Rare risks include gastric ulcers (<0.1%) and hematological reactions. For optimal results, consume tablets with food, except in acute cases requiring pre-meal administration. Always consult healthcare providers before combining with sulfonylureas or quinolone antibiotics to prevent interactions.

Adults: 1 tablet every 8 hours (max 3 tablets/day). Elderly/Renal/Hepatic impairment: Max 2 tablets/day. Take with food or 30 mins before meals for acute pain. Limit duration to 5-7 days. Swallow whole with water. Do not crush.

As with all medicines, Actidex 25 mg tablets may cause some unwanted effects in some patients. These are described below and are characteristic of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs:

• Common (1-10%): nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain or heartburn.
• Uncommon (0.1-1%): sleep disorders, nervousness, headache, dizziness, vertigo, palpitations, constipation, dry mouth, flatulence, skin rash, fatigue, hot flushes, shivering, general malaise.
• Rare (0.01 0.1%): stomach ulceration, gastric haemorrhage or perforation; pins and needles, high blood pressure, water retention, slowed breathing rate, hepatic enzymes increased, increased sweating.
• Very rare/isolated cases (<0.01%): blurred vision, ringing in the ear, low blood pressure, haematological reactions, hepatic or renal damage, dermatological and photosensitivity reactions, bronchospasm or anaphylaxis.

In patients with systemic lupus erythematosus or mixed connective tissue disease, antiinflammatory medicines may rarely cause isolated cases of fever, headache and rigidity of the nape (back of the neck).

Contraindicated in 3rd trimester. Avoid during lactation. Consider paracetamol for pain relief in pregnancy.

Monitor CBC, renal/hepatic function during prolonged use. Consider gastroprotection with PPIs in high-risk patients. Avoid in dehydration states.

Pediatric: Not approved. Geriatric: Start with 12.5 mg. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min): Contraindicated. Hepatic cirrhosis: Dose adjustment needed.
