Description

Levomax Ophthalmic Solution, manufactured by Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd, is a 0.5% strength ophthalmic solution containing Levofloxacin. This antibiotic treats bacterial conjunctivitis and other ocular infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Haemophilus influenzae. Priced at ৳100.00 per unit, it offers affordable access to quality eye care.

The medication works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, disrupting DNA replication. For adults and children above 1 year, the dosage starts with 1-2 drops every 2 hours (up to 8 times daily) for two days, then reduces to every 4 hours. A 1.5% variant (Levomax TS 1.5%) is available for severe cases.

Common side effects include transient blurred vision, ocular discomfort, or headache (1-3% incidence). Rare reactions like allergic responses or lid edema occur in <1% cases. Store at 15°–25°C, away from light and children. Pregnant/nursing women should consult doctors before use due to Category C pregnancy risk.

For generic alternatives, explore Levofloxacin-based formulations. This 4-Quinolone class drug interacts cautiously with blood thinners like warfarin. Always complete the 7-day course to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Adults & ≥1 year: Days 1-2: 1-2 drops every 2 hours (max 8x/day). Days 3-7: 1-2 drops every 4 hours. 1.5% strength for ≥6 years. Wash hands before use; avoid contaminating dropper tip. Typical treatment duration: 7 days.
