The drug works by blocking leukotriene receptors, reducing inflammation and airway constriction. Clinical studies show effectiveness in both pediatric (6+ months) and adult patients. Dosage varies from 4 mg to 10 mg daily, depending on age and condition. Always take as prescribed – typically once nightly or 2 hours before exercise.

Rare: Angioedema, concentration impaired, disorientation, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, erythema nodosum, hallucination, hepatic disorders, memory loss, palpitations, pulmonary eosinophilia, suicidal tendencies, tremor.

Pregnancy Category B: Use only if clearly needed. Lactation: Excreted in milk—consider risk/benefit ratio. Avoid in nursing mothers with neuropsychiatrically vulnerable infants.

Monitor for behavioral changes, especially in adolescents. Discontinue if neuropsychiatric symptoms emerge. Regular liver function tests advised in chronic users. Not for monotherapy in severe persistent asthma.

There were no adverse experiences in the majority of overdosage reports. In the event of overdose, it is reasonable to employ the usual supportive measures; e.g., remove unabsorbed material from the gastrointestinal tract, employ clinical monitoring, and institute supportive therapy, if required.
