Montiva Tablet 10 mg

Montiva Tablet is a branded respiratory medication containing Montelukast Sodium 10 mg. Manufactured by NIPRO JMI Pharma Ltd, this leukotriene receptor antagonist helps manage asthma and allergic rhinitis. Priced at ৳16.00 per tablet, it comes in strips of 10 tablets (৳160.00) and packs of 30 tablets (৳480.00). Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.

This tablet prevents asthma attacks, exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and seasonal allergies. It blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, reducing airway inflammation. Adults take 10 mg daily at night, while children require lower doses based on age. Montiva offers 24-hour relief with once-daily dosing and can be taken with/without food.

Common side effects include headache, nausea, and upper respiratory infections. Rare risks involve neuropsychiatric symptoms like anxiety or depression. Avoid in pregnancy/lactation unless critically needed. No significant drug interactions with NSAIDs or contraceptives. For alternatives, consider Montiva 4 mg or 5 mg variants.

Common: Diarrhoea, fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, nausea, vomiting, skin reactions, upper respiratory tract infection.

Uncommon: Akathisia, anxiety, arthralgia, asthenia, abnormal behavior, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, haemorrhage, irritability, malaise, muscle complaints, oedema, seizure, abnormal sensation, sleep disorders.

Rare: Angioedema, concentration impaired, disorientation, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, erythema nodosum, hallucination, hepatic disorders, memory loss, palpitations, pulmonary eosinophilia, suicidal tendencies, tremor.

Pregnancy Category B: Use only if needed. Excreted in breast milk (0.0001%) – consult doctor during lactation.

Monitor neuropsychiatric symptoms (agitation, depression). Not for acute asthma attacks. Caution when driving. Regular liver function tests recommended.

No dose adjustment for elderly/renal/hepatic impairment. Contraindicated below 6 months age.

There were no adverse experiences in the majority of overdosage reports. The most frequently occurring adverse experiences were consistent with the safety profile of Montiva and included abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting and psychomotor hyperactivity. In the event of overdose, it is reasonable to employ the usual supportive measures; e.g., remove unabsorbed material from the gastrointestinal tract, employ clinical monitoring, and institute supportive therapy, if required.
