Montiva Flash Tablet 5 mg

Montiva (Montelukast Sodium 5 mg), manufactured by NIPRO JMI Pharma Ltd, is a leukotriene receptor antagonist tablet for asthma prevention and allergy management. Priced at ৳9.00 per unit (3×10 strips: ৳270), it effectively controls chronic asthma, exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and allergic rhinitis symptoms.

This Flash Tablet works by blocking cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, reducing airway inflammation. Adults take 10 mg daily, while children (6 months-14 years) require lower doses. It’s taken orally, preferably at night or 2 hours before exercise, with/without food.

• Seasonal/perennial allergic rhinitis
• Exercise-induced breathing difficulties

Common side effects include headache (15% users), nausea, and diarrhea. Rare risks involve neuropsychiatric symptoms like agitation. Store below 30°C, away from moisture. Avoid overdose – symptoms include drowsiness and vomiting. Consult doctors when using with warfarin or NSAIDs.

Common: Diarrhoea, fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, nausea, vomiting, skin reactions, upper respiratory tract infection.

Uncommon: Akathisia, anxiety, arthralgia, asthenia, abnormal behavior, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, haemorrhage, irritability, malaise, muscle complaints, oedema, seizure, abnormal sensation, sleep disorders.

Rare: Angioedema, concentration impaired, disorientation, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, erythema nodosum, hallucination, hepatic disorders, memory loss, palpitations, pulmonary eosinophilia, suicidal tendencies, tremor.

Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution advised in lactation. Keep all Flash Tablet formulations away from children.

Not for acute asthma attacks. Monitor for neuropsychiatric symptoms. Regular liver function tests recommended during long-term therapy.

No dosage adjustment needed in elderly. Hepatic impairment may require dose reduction. Safety not established in infants below 6 months.

There were no adverse experiences in the majority of overdosage reports. The most frequently occurring adverse experiences were consistent with the safety profile of Montiva and included abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting and psychomotor hyperactivity. In the event of overdose, it is reasonable to employ the usual supportive measures; e.g., remove unabsorbed material from the gastrointestinal tract, employ clinical monitoring, and institute supportive therapy, if required.
