Moticare Tablet 10 mg

Moticare (Domperidone Maleate 10mg) is a gastrointestinal motility stimulant manufactured by SMC Enterprise Ltd. Priced at ৳2.50 per tablet, this tablet formulation effectively addresses delayed gastric emptying, acid reflux, and nausea. Each strip contains 10 tablets (৳25.00), with bulk packs of 10×10 available for ৳250.00.

As a dopamine antagonist, Moticare enhances stomach contractions and accelerates food movement without crossing the blood-brain barrier significantly. This reduces neurological side effects commonly seen in other prokinetic drugs. It’s prescribed for dyspepsia, GERD, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and Parkinson’s medication-related vomiting.

Dosage Guidelines:

• Adults: 1-2 tablets (10-20mg) 15-30 mins before meals
• Children: 0.2-0.4mg/kg body weight

Maximum treatment duration is 12 weeks. Store below 30°C away from moisture.

Common side effects (≤1.9%) include dry mouth and headaches. Rare cases (<0.1%) show skin rashes or lactation changes. Avoid with anticholinergics and consult doctors before combining with MAO inhibitors. Not recommended during pregnancy despite no teratogenic evidence in animal studies.

Side-effects are rare; exceptionally some transient intestinal cramps have been reported. Extrapyramidal phenomena are rare in young children and exceptional in adults: they reverse spontaneously and completely as soon as the treatment is stopped. As the pituitary gland is located outside the blood-brain barrier, domperidone may induce an increase in the plasma prolactin level. In rare case this hyperprolactinaemia may give rise to neuroendocrinological phenomena such as galactorrhoea and gynaecomastia. When the blood-brain barrier is immature (as in infants) or impaired, the possible occurrence of neurological side-effects cannot be totally excluded. Rare allergic reactions, such as rash and urticaria, have also been reported.

Pregnancy Category C (risk unknown). Compatible with breastfeeding – <0.1% excreted in milk. Monitor infant for GI symptoms.

Neurological monitoring in infants. ECG monitoring for QT prolongation. Regular prolactin checks with prolonged use.

Pediatric: Use drops for <12kg. Geriatric: Renal function-based dosing. Hepatic: Max 10mg twice daily. Renal: Double dosing interval if CrCl <30mL/min.

Symptoms of overdosage may include drowsiness, disorientation and extrapyramidal reactions, especially in children. In case of overdosage, the administration of activated charcoal, and close observation of the patients are recommended. Anticholinergic, antiparkinson drugs or antihistamines with anticholinergic properties may be helpful in controlling the extrapyramidal reactions.
