Motil Tablet 10 mg

Motil Tablet is a 10 mg Domperidone Maleate-based medication manufactured by Hallmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Priced at ৳2.02 per unit (100’s pack: ৳202), this tablet treats gastric motility disorders, nausea, and vomiting. It accelerates stomach emptying and improves esophageal sphincter function.

Clinically effective for dyspeptic symptoms like bloating, heartburn, and acid reflux, Motil Tablet also prevents chemotherapy-induced nausea. Its dopamine-blocking action minimizes neurological side effects. Adults typically take 10-20 mg every 6-8 hours before meals.

Common side effects include dry mouth (1.9%) and mild headaches. Rare cases report elevated prolactin levels. Avoid concurrent use with opioid analgesics. Store below 30°C, protected from moisture. Not recommended during pregnancy without medical advice.

Side-effects are rare; exceptionally some transient intestinal cramps have been reported. Extrapyramidal phenomena are rare in young children and exceptional in adults: they reverse spontaneously and completely as soon as the treatment is stopped. As the pituitary gland is located outside the blood-brain barrier, domperidone may induce an increase in the plasma prolactin level. In rare case this hyperprolactinaemia may give rise to neuroendocrinological phenomena such as galactorrhoea and gynaecomastia. When the blood-brain barrier is immature (as in infants) or impaired, the possible occurrence of neurological side-effects cannot be totally excluded. Rare allergic reactions, such as rash and urticaria, have also been reported.

Pregnancy Category B (unsafe). Lactation: Low milk excretion. Monitor infant for side effects.

Dose adjustment needed in hepatic/renal impairment. Mandatory ECG monitoring for QT prolongation. Check prolactin levels after 3 days.

Pediatrics: Avoid <1 year. Geriatric: Monitor renal function. Hepatic: Max 10 mg/day. Renal: Double dosing interval.

Symptoms of overdosage may include drowsiness, disorientation and extrapyramidal reactions, especially in children. In case of overdosage, the administration of activated charcoal, and close observation of the patients are recommended. Anticholinergic, antiparkinson drugs or antihistamines with anticholinergic properties may be helpful in controlling the extrapyramidal reactions.
