Motodon Tablet 10 mg

Motodon Tablet is a gastrointestinal medication containing Domperidone Maleate 10 mg, manufactured by Medimet Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Priced at ৳1.50 per tablet, this tablet formulation addresses delayed gastric emptying, acid reflux, nausea, and vomiting. It enhances stomach motility by blocking dopamine receptors in the digestive tract.

This medicine effectively treats dyspeptic symptoms like bloating, early satiety, and epigastric pain. It also prevents chemotherapy-induced or migraine-related vomiting. With minimal CNS side effects due to poor blood-brain barrier penetration, Motodon Tablet shows better safety than similar prokinetic drugs.

The recommended adult dosage is 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets) 15-30 minutes before meals. For acute vomiting, maximum 20 mg every 6-8 hours. Pediatric doses are weight-adjusted. Avoid concurrent use with anticholinergics or opioids. Store below 30°C, protected from moisture.

Common side effects (<1-2%) include dry mouth, headache, and mild diarrhea. Rarely causes prolactin elevation leading to breast tenderness. Contraindicated in pregnancy but considered safe during breastfeeding. As a cost-effective option at ৳150 for 100 tablets, Motodon remains popular for digestive disorders in Bangladesh.

Adults: 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets) 3-4 times daily before meals. Children: 0.2-0.4 mg/kg, max 12 weeks therapy. Reduce dose to 1-2 times daily in renal impairment. Use cautiously in hepatic disorders.

Side-effects are rare; exceptionally some transient intestinal cramps have been reported. Extrapyramidal phenomena are rare in young children and exceptional in adults: they reverse spontaneously and completely as soon as the treatment is stopped. As the pituitary gland is located outside the blood-brain barrier, domperidone may induce an increase in the plasma prolactin level. In rare case this hyperprolactinaemia may give rise to neuroendocrinological phenomena such as galactorrhoea and gynaecomastia. When the blood-brain barrier is immature (as in infants) or impaired, the possible occurrence of neurological side-effects cannot be totally excluded. Rare allergic reactions, such as rash and urticaria, have also been reported.

Pregnancy safety unestablished. Compatible with lactation – minimal secretion in breast milk.

Neurological monitoring required in infants <1 year. Regular liver function tests and ECG monitoring advised. Check prolactin levels during prolonged use.

Pediatric: Higher neuro risk due to immature BBB. Hepatic impairment: Dose adjustment needed. Renal failure: Double dosing interval if creatinine >6 mg/dL.

Symptoms of overdosage may include drowsiness, disorientation and extrapyramidal reactions, especially in children. In case of overdosage, the administration of activated charcoal, and close observation of the patients are recommended. Anticholinergic, antiparkinson drugs or antihistamines with anticholinergic properties may be helpful in controlling the extrapyramidal reactions.
