Xynofen SR Capsule (Sustained Release) 100 mg

Xynofen SR Capsule (Sustained Release) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing Ketoprofen 100 mg. Manufactured by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, this sustained-release formulation ensures prolonged therapeutic effects. It is priced at ৳7.54 per capsule, with strips of 10 capsules costing ৳75.40. The drug is primarily used for managing rheumatoid arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, and acute conditions like dental pain.

The pharmacological action of Xynofen SR involves dual inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and leukotriene pathways, providing potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Its sustained-release Capsule (Sustained Release) design allows 12-24 hour symptom control. Patients with renal or hepatic impairments require dosage adjustments. Common side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, while severe reactions like gastrointestinal bleeding are rare.

Dosage guidelines vary by condition: 150-300 mg/day divided into 2-3 doses for chronic inflammation, and 25-50 mg every 6-8 hours for acute pain. Maximum daily intake should not exceed 300 mg. Concomitant use with anticoagulants, SSRIs, or diuretics increases bleeding or kidney risks. Avoid during third-trimester pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Storage recommendations include protection from light and temperatures below 30°C. Patients must follow prescription guidelines strictly. For overdose management, gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are advised. Explore alternative NSAIDs or consult physicians for Ketoprofen-based options if intolerance occurs.

Avoid in first/second trimester. Contraindicated in third trimester. Not recommended during lactation. May impair female fertility.

Monitor renal function in cardiac/hepatic/renal impairment. May mask infection symptoms. Maintain hydration. Regular BP checks in hypertensive patients. Eye exams if visual disturbances occur.

Elderly: Use lowest effective dose. Renal/hepatic impairment: Dose reduction required. Pediatric safety not established. Adjust dose based on creatinine clearance.

Cases of overdose have been reported with doses up to 2.5 g of Xynofen SR. In most instances, the symptoms observed have been benign and limited to lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and epigastric pain. There are no specific antidotes to Xynofen SR overdosages. In cases of suspected massive overdosages, a gastric lavage is recommended and symptomatic and supportive treatment should be instituted to compensate for dehydration, to monitor urinary excretion and to correct acidosis, if present. If renal failure is present, hemodialysis may be useful to remove circulating drug.
